Thankful for Them

Our Thanksgiving was one of the best we've had in a while. Audrey and her family came for a visit and it was wonderful. I certainly miss my best friend and it's been a very rare thing in the last 7 years or so to spend any holiday with her and her family. We spent a lot of time talking.. about changing. About the personal growth that has come to all of us. Because of them. Because of these incredible little beings that were sent into our lives. It seems that each of us needed something changed in our lives. And the child that we got made sure that we grew. Changed priorities and found something better in ourselves. This Thanksgiving we are most thankful for our families. Our parents. Our Aunts, Cousins, Grandparents and mostly our children. They have made us better people.

For me.. before Alex. I was hyper focused on career, money, houses, cars. I wanted more, better, bigger. Children played no part in that plan. After Alex life is different. There is more to life than material things. And i am so much happier for it. At this time of the year the old jealousies will sometimes creep back in. At thanksgiving i will see pictures or commercials showing families around a huge beautiful table with their chargers and fancy place settings and pretty napkin rings. I am quick to compare it to our stuffed pumpkin centerpeice, our painted sections of TP tubes we used for napkin rings, the disposable plates we're using because i don't own 16 of anything in my house for all the guests...but then I have to shake it off. And remember what is important. The laughing, the sharing, the bonding that occurs as my family cooks and plays together. The fun time Alex and I had making our decorations. That is what matters. We will never have that perfect house with perfect entertaining. And IT IS OK. These little faces are what matters most.
