Bee Fun!

On Wednesday we went to a presentation at the library on bees. A really nice man from the Tidewater Beekeepers Association came out and did a great program for the kids. They watched a movie that shows the inside of a hive, he showed them all sorts of cool things and pictures, and they learned a ton about bees and how important they are to us. The best part was that he brought some bees from his hives, enclosed in a case of course, including a queen! She was marked with pink paint. Alex loved it and would have stayed there looking at them all day if we had let him. The beekeeper also told us that there is a wild bee hive in a large tree right on the library property! He was instrumental in getting the city and library to keep the hive. They recently put a sign near the tree to inform and warn not to harm the hive. Alex was a little scared but was enthralled that we were able to see a real working wild bee hive. Oh and Alex was so grown up, after the program the children could ask questions.. Alex raised his hand and from the parents area behind all the kids, I inwardly groaned. You never know what will come out of that kid's mouth LOL. He very politely asked if the queen bee tried to sting the beekeeper when he painted her. I thought that was a very good question! :)
