Treasure

The theme of this trip to PA was definitely TREASURE! I had a fabulous time digging through all the stuff Mimi didn't want, found lots of treasure! It was like thrift store city except free... it was great! Love all the antique, family treasures that i heard stories about. I had to pack the car like tetris to even get most of it home.

Alex found treasure in the basement. Poppop and Mimi's current house is very old and Alex loved exploring the basement. There were weird old doors that led to mysterious places and they even found a coal room! Inside there was an old coal sifter with some pieces of coal still stuck in it. Alex was soooo thrilled to have some pieces of real coal to take home as his treasure.

I slept on the couch while there... and Alex came down one morning to find me wrapped up tight in my blanket. He said... "hey you look like a mummy!" He began piling treasures on top of me "for the next life" (we've been studying ancient egypt). We had lots of giggles as he'd add TV remotes so i could watch TV in the next life or my cell phone so i could call home from the next life. After a while I asked him to put the things away so i could get up... he got a twinkle in his eye and said "I'M A TOMB ROBBER!" He proceeded to sneak away all my treasure! We reversed roles after breakfast and i wrapped him up and piled him with treasure :)

One of our biggest treasures was seeing the mountains of PA in the fall. Our drive home was fantastic. I don't think we stopped ooohing and ahhhing for the first hour.

Mimi and I opened a box of frames from her attic. Each frame was wrapped in newspaper so it became a bit like a christmas treasure hunt. I kept opening up empty frames but Mimi opened quite a few REAL treasures. Antique pictures of relatives long gone. Ancestors that luckily i know about now that i've been addicted to Ancestry.com. It is so amazing to have found these! True Treasures.

We also got to visit Sweet Valley Church of Christ while in PA. This is the first church my grandfather preached at. My mother has fond memories of this church and the parsonage they lived in. Quite a few people kept thinking i must be Linda (my mom) LOL. The views from the church were just incredible... treasures.

We visited Uncle Tom (my grandfather's brother) too. He got a new treasure recently.. a new really cool computer! And he had the most beautiful scenery around his house up on the mountain top. I got some great pictures of Alex under the ornamental cherry tree in his front yard. Alex's treasure there was the hill. Coming from the flat lands of Virginia Beach, Alex was soooo happy to have a hill to run up and down. All 3 boys enjoyed watching some train movies while we were there too. All of them being train enthusiasts of course!
