This is one of the sunflower plants we're seeding. We're going to participate in the Great Sunflower Project. Just like we counted birds for the Great Backyard Bird Count, this time we'll be counting bees that come to our sunflowers.
Since it was Earth Day today we decided to go around and pick up trash in the neighborhood. We were at the farthest point from our house when we noticed a huge bank of nasty clouds rolling in.. We had to run home and barely made it before the rain and thunder. Guess we'll finish our pick up another day :) We did see some baby ducks today though! Yesterday we saw baby geese but i didn't have my camera.
Cattail story - back in September we visited the family up in PA. Alex decided he had to take home a cattail from Uncle Tommy's yard. Allll the way back to Virginia Beach. It sat on our porch for a while before it started to explode with seeds. All inside our screened porch... lovely. Alex and i took the exploding cattail and spread the seeds around our little waterway. It doesn't have any cattails so we thought it would be a neat experiment. Check out the pictures from today to see the results...
