Today we went on a field trip with a homeschool group to tour Rowena's Bakery. Such a fabulous local treasure that place is. We tasted some cake and curd samples while waiting for the tour to start, Alex really liked that part. Ok me too. I couldn't take any pictures during the tour, but it was really interesting to see how they do things and it's all still done by hand. Alex loved looking into the big freezer.
Afterwards we had a traditional "Tea" served on tiered trays. Alex's tray had PB&J sandwiches, turkey sandwiches, grilled cheese, carrots, fruit, pretzels and cake. He adored it. When mine came out he declared that his tier was better LOL. The nice lady serving us showed him how to properly stir his "tea" which was really apple juice. He practiced on my tea too and even put a sugar cube in my tea for me. He was just delighted with everything. Such an amazing time :)
For those of you not from this area, the mermaid is the symbol of Norfolk and there are "themed" mermaids at area landmarks around the city.

awesome, wasn't it? never been to rowena's tea house, but sampled their yummy tea breads.
